Our much beloved full contact sport turns 78 today!
Roller Derby was first played in Chicago in 1938. Currently there are more than 1200 derby clubs and the sport still growing. Roller Sports (including derby) are being considered for the 2020 olympics, but the sport has changed a lot in it’s 78 years. We have come a long way from the banked-track roller skating marathons of the 1930s, the 1970s scripted story lines and the RollerGames of 1990. Contemporary roller derby has a basic set of rules, developed by the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).

"Skate Fast; Hit Hard"
This game looks amazing and super complicated. The little player pieces are so cute. Has anyone played this game? I’ve seen the ‘JammerUp' game, but this board looks a lot more realistic.
The intricacies come at a cost, however. On Amazon, the ‘Impact City game retails at $40. ‘JammerUp’ on the other hand is $29.99
IMPACT CITY GAME:
The show has not made it’s debut yet, but is slated to air on the new Esquire Network on September 24 at 10 p.m. The show stars James Watt and Martin Dickie, who own a fastest-growing brewery in the UK. The Brew Dogs just released a first look video.
Is skating becoming more main stream? A recent Lever 2000 soap print ad features a pair of roller skates and the tag line “For skin fresher than four wheelers.”
What do you think; are these ads effective? Are you likely to purchase a specific kind of soap if the image is something that you relate to?
Have you seen skating referenced in other advertisements?
